IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO FOR MY LAWN NOW?

FEBRUARY- MARCH  Lawn Aeration

Do you know the importance of lawn aeration?

Aeration relieves compacted soil and allows easier access to the lawn's root systems for watering and other nutrients. It is recommended that lawns with regular maintenance receive aeration each year.

APRIL-MAY  Lawn Fertilization

Do you have Bermuda, Zoysias, St. Augustine or Centipede grass? Yes? Well it's time for a balanced fertilizer and broadleaf weed control (if weeds are present). Stop by your local nursery or contact a lawn service professional for fertilizer and tips on application. I like using Southern Lawns 569-1000 here in Columbus.

About Mowing

Proper mowing can mean the difference between a so-so lawn and a great one. There are a few simple decisions to make when mowing that make a difference in your lawn.

How high to mow?

Grass generally performs best when mowed at one of the higher settings on your mower - especially in hot summer weather.

  • Avoid scalping at all costs.
  • Never cut off more than 1/3 of the length of the grass blades in a single mowing.
  • If lawn growth gets ahead of you, mow it at a higher length, then lower blade and mow again a few days later.
